Award-winning Highland Distillery Glenmorangie has launched the second partnership in its Beyond the Cask series, revealing a world-first: a limited-edition collection of Renovo bicycles created from the whisky’s casks.

The series celebrates the oak barrels — only ever used twice — in which the distillery’s signature single malt is matured by repurposing their staves in innovative ways, bringing a “new life” to the casks that inspire its whisky.
Each of the hollow frames — made from around 15 staves — is uniquely designed to reflects the curvature of the casks. Once the casks have been used twice over at the distillery, their staves are shipped from Scotland to Renovo’s workshop in Portland, Oregon to begin the meticulous process of kiln-drying the oak arms and smoothing away the charred surfaces before the frames are created by the workshop’s craftsmen. All in all, the handcrafted structures take over 20 hours to make, and weigh in at around 8.1kg.

The bicycle brand’s founder, Ken Wheeler, pioneered the first wooden bicycles a decade ago after being inspired by the material’s engineering properties and has been dedicated “to honouring wood in the creation of [Renovo’s] bicycles” since.
